We are pleased to announce that on December 10–11. 2024, the first capacity-building workshop of the “Cultural Connections: Preserving Cultural Heritage in the Western Balkans” project took place. The project aims to strengthen the preservation of cultural heritage in the region and enrich local tourism offerings.
At the opening meeting of the two-day workshop, Hajnalka Burány, the Mayor of Zenta, and her advisor, Attila Vörös, welcomed the professional team and guests, emphasizing the importance of the project and the community's commitment to preserving cultural values.
During the event, project partners had the opportunity to explore the landmarks of Zenta and Óbecse, which represent significant cultural and tourist attractions in the region.
The project partners worked together to lay the groundwork for the successful implementation of the project. We hosted representatives of partner organizations, who presented their work and shared their experiences:
“Bauo” Cultural Development Society (Dušan Medin, Radovan Perović)
Óbecse City Museum (Ákos Tojzán, Raško Ramadanski)
Thurzó Lajos Cultural-Educational Center (Szilvia Kecsenovics)
Zenta Municipality Tourism Organization (Emese Terényi Gere and Kornél Laskovity, project host)
Several important topics were addressed during the workshop:
- Preservation and accessibility of cultural heritage: Dušan Medin presented best practices for protecting cultural sites.
- Significance of Saint Stephen's Church: Raško Ramadanski gave a detailed presentation on the history of the church and the importance of archaeological efforts.
- Strategies and cooperation: The partners worked together on the next steps of the project and developed the strategies needed for implementation.
- Project details: Project coordinator István Mikusák provided a brief summary of the content and implementation details of the project.
This event represents another step toward making Zenta's cultural and tourist values even more prominent in the region. We believe that preserving cultural heritage is not only about honoring our past but also about creating new opportunities for tourism development.
